Raw food on Thursday nights!

March 8th, 2010

Had the autumn Napoleon salad at Grezzo in Newburyport yesterday. This is the most amazing salad!!! Oh and of course a chocolate cookie with frosting! Alright, so I had a few, but they have algae in them so its OK.

Wanted to tell you though about our new happenings at Grezzo…

We are having a vegetarian social on Thursday nights at  Grezzo Newburyport. Should be fun! If your in the area, make sure your there.

Happy Hour from 5-7

Complimentary Appetizers

We also have a 3 – course $25 dollar chef tasting special!

Leah also made gluten free cheese! Very exciting for all of you gluten free people,  since most of our amazing cheeses are made from wheat and rye berries. She made this one from Quinoa.

March 6th, 2010

There’s a post on my rawfoodtalk.com board that you might get a kick out of!

Annie, one of the members, has decided to uncook her way through my book, Living on Live Food, like in the movie Julie and Julia.

Heres the link to it http://rawfoodtalk.com/showthread.php?t=54209

Raw food Restaurant?

March 5th, 2010

After coming home from NY and visting some raw places there, I cant help thinking that Grezzo’s food would blow people away there. Our food is the best, I have to say, by far.

Ive already contacted a few freinds there and some brokers who I know. Now to break  the news to Dennis  that I want to open a Grezzo in NY ;)

Raw Food Photo Shoot

March 4th, 2010

Got back last night from my photo shoot in NY for the cover of my new book, Raw Food for Everyone.  It was a blast! So much fun, great people and the pictures look great. I’m waiting anxiously to see the final one!

We went over to pure food and wine after the shoot. Fun night but got back into Boston late and home at 2 am. So tired, but I can’t sleep for some reason. After finishing my Feb 4 day training and then flying to NY,I thought I’d be snuggled up to the dogs today napping off and on. All jazzed up about the new book I guess!

So I promised I’d be better at blogging. I think I’ve been intimidated that I need to write long and life changing posts. But apparently, they don’t need to be that earth shattering. So, I promise to babble more here!

Raw Food Class

March 4th, 2010

I just finished the 4 day Alissa Cohen Feb Raw Food Teacher Training. Wow! Amazing group of people, as usual. The power was out though in most of this area so it was an interesting night on Friday when they arrived. But all went well and I’m so happy to be connected to another group of amazing people!  The April one is almost full so I’m adding a June date. That may be the last one for a while, although, I’ve said that before.  Just going month to month with them.

No More Raw Food Products

November 3rd, 2009

As many of you have already realized, I have changed up my site a bit. I was meaning to post this before it happened as so many of you are writing and asking where our food and supplement section went and why I took all of these products off my site.

I will just be selling my book and DVDs along with some new products down the road such as my skin care.

There are many reasons why I’ve decided to take the food and other items off of my site. One reason is because you can now find these items mostly anywhere. When I first started carrying these items online it was because you could not buy them anywhere. There are also a ton of sites now that carry these same items and some of them are at below cost.  I did not want to be selling items at a higher cost if people could find them cheaper.

The biggest reason is that it is time for a change! My second restaurant is taking up loads of my time and I’m in the process of writing another book.  I felt like the internet business, along with our shipping department and everything that comes along with that, distributors, UPS, etc…has been a huge burden on me and not fun anymore.

I appreciate all of you who have supported my store by buying your products from me. I always tried to carry the highest quality products but that too has become more difficult with more and more companies producing less then ideal raw food items.

I also feel a pull to get back to promoting what I believe is true superfoods  (like sprouts and living foods) and not so much all of the processed powders and so called “superfoods” that are becoming so prominent on all of the sites and all through the internet now. I think they are fine in moderation but it has become a bit overdone with some of the more well-known raw food leaders.

I’m moving in the direction of my dreams which is what I teach and why I eat raw food. Being stagnant is never a good thing and I’ve had the internet store for many many years now.

With 2 thriving restaurants and a new book coming out, I’m excited for the next step.

I look forward to sharing with you all the new adventures that pop up and I will keep you posted on the new book. It will be released from Penguin books in the fall of 2010.

Healthier on raw foods…

August 18th, 2009

I had a raw food conversation last night that led to one of my little pet peeves…

I really wasn’t planning on talking about raw food with this person –I was doing business with them over the phone.

While I know this diet is new to many people, it’s just funny to me that after 30, 40, 50 + years of eating pizza and chips and cookies and candy, people go raw and after three days are worried they will be deficient in protein or certain vitamins! Come on, think about this, silly isn’t it? First of all you will be eating healthier than ever before. You probably have never eaten as much fruit and veggies before, right?

I’m not saying that it is not possible to become deficient in something, but it normally takes a very long time and a very restricted, poor diet… After a couple of days of not rotating your food choices, eating mostly fruit or not having a daily green drink, you’ll be fine. Really, trust me on this one. Most people have never had a green drink in their life!

You are going to be eating the healthiest foods on the planet!

How often do people worry about being deficient in something when they are eating processed, dead foods that have no nutritional impact at all? And now, when people go on a raw food diet, they somehow feel that eating fruits, veggies, nuts and seeds will lead them into deficiency.

These foods are loaded with vitamins, minerals, enzymes, amino acids, carbohydrates, fats, water and fiber. All essential for a healthy diet. The more you know about the nutritional deficiencies in cooked and processed foods, the more you will appreciate your raw fruits and vegetables. Many people consider a salad to be a less than optimal for a main meal for lunch or dinner but a good salad has all the nutritional components required by our body–a claim that can’t be made by any cooked food.

India.Arie and Raw Food = The perfect summer night…

August 8th, 2009

Yesterday at the last minute I decided that I needed food! Yep, I needed a really good raw food meal! Appetizers’, entrée, dessert – the whole shebang. It felt like a long time since I had had an amazing raw food feast. I hadn’t been in to check on Grezzo for a few weeks. I was craving my brownie sundae!

While I was working away on the computer all day, I kept thinking that I needed to go into Grezzo to have a really great raw meal. Finally I stopped procrastinating and got in the car, picked up a friend along the way and drove in.

We got to Grezzo at about 4:30pm, right before dinner service. When I walked in to the restaurant there were two women sitting at a table. I walked by, smiled and thought “wow, she looks familiar”, but didn’t want to disturb them. When I walked into the kitchen, my staff was all flipped out. India.Arie was the women sitting at the table along with her personal chef. She was performing last night in Boston at an outdoor venue on the waterfront.

We talked for a while about her being vegan and the food they had ordered. After chatting with them a while and giving them my book and DVD, I left them alone to eat.

My friend Christine and I sat at a table at the other end of the restaurant. Christine was whispering to me how awesome it would be if they decided that the food was so great, they were going to give us tickets to the concert that night. We laughed. About 2 minutes later, Stephanie, the women with her, asked if I’d like to do a trade. Another book and DVD for concert tickets that night.

WHOOOO HOOOO!

We went to see India.Arie and she was amazing! It was a gorgeous night in Boston and her voice and lyrics are so moving.

The food at Grezzo last night was some of the best I’ve had. The pepperoni pizza was fantastic. Leah and Sam came up with an incredible vegetable terrain and the coconut meringue was really over the top amazing.

Ah, my tummy and soul were very full and happy. The perfect raw summer night.

Finally, another Grezzo is opening!
