Ok here’s the recipe:

Burdock Root is a powerful anti-inflammatory herbal tea. A mildly bitter herb, it also stimulates the release of gastric juices and aids digestion.

Shilajit is considered the king herb of Ayurveda, the traditional Indian system of medicine. Shilajit contains at least 85 minerals in ionic form. Shilajit is a Sanskrit word meaning “conqueror of mountains and destroyer of weakness.” It is a mineral-rich humus (soil) that emanates from the crevices of the Himalayan mountains. Shilajit is truly a remarkable substance with a long history of human usage for healing, building, and rejuvenation.

Combine burdock tea and shilajit powder with these other ingredients to take the place of your morning coffee.

1 cup brewed burdock root tea

1 cup almond milk

1 teaspoon shilajit powder

1 tablespoon agave nectar

Combine all ingredients in a vita-mix or blender until frothy and warm from blending. Sprinkle with a little cinnamon if desired.

Okay now for the Sauerkraut Recipe!!!

Look how cool the inside of this cabbage looks! I only use purple cabbage  most of the time.

This is from my new book Raw Food for Everyone. Ive been making this throughout the winter and its so good for digestion and just taste so amazing! I dont even wait untill it ferments to eat it, its great that day!

Sauerkraut

Shred the cabbage with a knife, rather than in a food processor, so the cabbage comes out shredded rather than diced. Sauerkraut makes a great addition to wraps and other sandwiches. If you want less heat, reduce the amount of jalapeño. No water is necessary in this fermenting process because of the high moisture content of cabbage and the use of salt in this recipe. Warmer weather will expedite the process. It’s ready when the cabbage has softened and there’s a slightly fizzy, slightly sour taste.

Makes 8 cups

3 cups apple cider vinegar

1 to 2 jalapeño chiles, stemmed

1½ tablespoons coriander seeds

½ head napa cabbage, shredded

½ head purple cabbage, shredded

2 teaspoons sea salt

1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

1. Put the vinegar, jalapeños, and coriander seeds in a Vita-Mix and blend to create the brine. Set aside.

2. Combine the cabbage, salt, and pepper and thoroughly toss with the brine. Place in a ceramic bowl or large crock. Store at room temperature on the countertop for 5 days, stirring at least once a day.

3. Transfer the sauerkraut to clean quart-size jars, cover, and refrigerate for up to 3 weeks.

Helloooo from Ice Land! Only kidding but wow! Talk about some snow. Major snow storms every week and now we are supposed to get 27 inches on tuesday and wednesday! AHH!!!

Even the water across the street is freezing! Does ocean water freeze??!!

So, we are leaving tomorrow morning for FL before Dennis has a nervous breakdown from shoveling, lol! He keeps telling me he’s too old for this kind of weather so we are taking a little break.

A winter wonderland here today! Wow, a foot and a half!

So, I just got back from Italy a few days ago. Dennis and I and another couple went for 2 weeks. We had so much fun! Its Dennis’ favorite place. We’ve been 4 times now and if I told him I’d move there, he’d be packed tomorrow!

Below is Florence Italy on New Years Eve. It was insane with so many people!

I went to a lot of museums and tried to get my art fix while we were in Florence and Siena.

We drove to Santa Margherita and spend a few days there and also went to Portofino.

And of course, the produce was amazing! Lychee’s, persimmons and everything else you can think of!

So that’s what I did over the holidays but now –  its back to biz.

Here are some pictures of my Raw Thanksgiving. I’m not great at remembering  to take pictures, but I tried while I was in FL.

I’m not sure that’s such a bad thing. I feel like it takes me out of the moment of actually enjoying what’s happening when I have to stop and step out of it and “remember” to take a picture for later. Id rather enjoy what I’m doing at that time and be “in the moment of it” while its happening, not later!

Ok, so that’s my excuse. Here is most of the food except for the amazing raw chocolates my mother made and some other yummy tid bits.



Papaya Encrusted Salmon Steak from Raw Food for Everyone. This is probably one of my all time favorite raw food dishes and its so easy to make.

Butternut Squash Ravioli from Raw Food for Everyone

This is the Butternut Squash stuffing. You can see that I couldn’t wait to eat it by the finger marks in it. This was SO good!

This is similar to the recipe for rice with the Nori rolls in RFFE but i think she just used parsnips and pine nuts.

This was an almond type bread with a salsa like the one in RFFE. We ate this first for an appetizer. OMG, so good!!!

Watermelon Soup from Living on Live Food. My mother lives on this. She makes it all the time and since it was an 80 degree day for Thanksgiving, it seemed appropriate!

Blueberry Cheesecake from RRFE. This was so creamy but not heavy. We ate this as we ran out the door to catch our plane home. I kept going back for more!

After spending Wednesday morning with one of my best friends who I haven’t seen for almost 2 years and then running off with my sister Stacie to her friends are gallery (Her place is beautiful  http://www.tiacrystal.com ) we went  to 4^th Generation in Boca. It’s a raw food deli and small supermarket. Great Place! I forgot to take pictures of the wraps but we had a raw hummus and falafel wrap and a raw mock tuna wrap, they were SO good! I did however remember to take a picture of the macaroons we devoured. You can see they are almost gone!

We then met up with Dennis and then later my parents for dinner. My sister and I decided, after our parents were gone and Dennis was asleep, to go to this Kava Bar that was about 2 minutes from us.

This was such a cool place! This is Stacie, drinking the kava at the bar. We had 3 coconut shells worth. I felt really relaxed and pretty happy after those!

If you click on these you can see them better. It was dark in there so the pix aren’t  great. This is also our new friend Erin, the Kava Barista, she was so cute and sweet and showed us “the kava ropes”. I’m addicted!

Sunrise the next morning from our patio and then home that night!

Hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving! Its was really nice to be able to spend it with my family, its been years!

I’m feeling weirdly euphoric this week! Maybe it’s all the extra yoga and de-stressing I’m doing.

So I’m becoming a yoga fanatic again since it’s the only thing that feels good for my foot. Hot yoga, I have a new love with hot vinyasa flow. I’ve been driving way too far though to do it so I’ve convinced Taylor and Philippe to open a Prana Yoga near me. Actually 3 doors up from me! Already scouted out the place, spoken to the landlord and had them come and look at it. YEAH! I just have to be creating, even if it’s for someone else!  And since they are just like me, it looks like it’s already in the works!  I’ll keep you posted and maybe I’ll even be teaching there and you can all come and take a class with me! Although I think I just want to take classes, not teach, but who knows, teaching is in my blood so we’ll see! At the very least, you can come and take class with me! You’ll love it, I promise!!!

I’ve been taking my therapeutic Enzymes again and making the Burdock-Shilajit Latte that I posted about in my last bog and feel awesome. I’ve always loved those enzymes and I swear that Shilajit has magical healing powers!

I’ve got two new projects I’m kicking around but I think I need to play for a while before I dive in! One is another book… am I ready to sit down and do that?? hm, I don’t know…Tomorrow is the winter farmers market around here and then a huge art show close by. Sunday is play time over a friend’s house. There will be a bunch of non raw people there so I’m making my stuffed pesto mushrooms, ice cream and other goodies to get them hooked!

Next week we are off to Florida for thanksgiving to see my parents and raw sister. I’m so excited to be spending the holiday with them. My sister is making all kinds of stuff from my new book, the papaya steak, stuffing, etc… we’re just going to hang out at the beach for a few days and then pig out on yummy raw food for thanksgiving. It’s been so many years since I’ve spent Thanksgiving with my parents. We are usually away on the holidays. I’m really looking forward to spending it with them and my sister. I also get to see one of my best friends, Elaine, while I’m in Fl.

On my way into my infrared sauna and then off to play for a while with my enchanting friend Susan.

Oh and to top off the day….Imagine my excitement and joy when I found these little babies waiting for me just 5 minutes away!



Yep, the Asian store near me has had durians all this time and I haven’t even known it.  I bought two yesterday and they are all defrosted and ready to be devoured today. Ah, all is right in the world .
