People become stiff and sore for numerous reasons. The main reason is due to the fact that the muscles tighten up and become short. What causes the muscles to do this, you may ask? It can be from repetitive use, stress, trauma or injury, just to name a few.
 
When a muscle shortens, circulation is restricted and toxins cannot be removed. This causes the muscle to become sore and a person will experience stiffness in the muscle and joint. If nothing is done to lengthen that muscle, it continues to tighten. The problem will continue to worsen until the person hurts so badly that he or she seeks medical help. The physician may diagnose the problem as Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, Tendonitis, Sciatica, Tennis Elbow, Plantar Fasciitis, Hammer Toes, TMJ, etc.; depending upon the affected muscle.
 
Once a muscle becomes short and tight, that muscle is more prone to injury.
